Weeks after Sacramento police officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife near Sacramento City College, the department released videos of the encounter. The shooting happened Aug. 15 on a light rail train at the City College Station by Hughes Stadium. That officer then points his gun at the armed man.The armed man can be heard repeatedly saying “please” and “I can’t do it.” He also said “I’m scared of y’all” twice to officers.Officers then asked him to not grab the knife, and the man repeatedly said “please bruh” before he could be seen taking out the knife roughly a minute after the encounter started.An officer was heard saying, “If he stands up, less lethal.”Now the man is repeatedly saying “Yahweh” and “lord please,” getting louder and louder each time. He then starts screaming loudly.A couple of minutes into their encounter, the man is still holding the knife, and officers still have weapons pointed at him.The man is banging his knife handle against the train window while saying,” Please, don’t run up on me.”An officer can be heard saying, “No one wants to hurt you.” Officers again asked the man to drop the knife.About three-and-a-half minutes into the encounter, the man stood up, and the officer carrying the less-lethal shotgun fired three rounds at him. The man, still holding the knife, charges toward officers. That led one of them to shoot him seven times.The man falls and gets up again. He was told to drop the knife again before another officer fired six more rounds at the man.He falls a second time and stops screaming. Officers approached the man using a shield, took the knife and tried medical aid on the man.Fire personnel tried CPR on the man, but they declared him dead at the scene.No officers were injured, police said.The Sacramento County Coroner identified the man killed as 44-year-old Dante Day. His time of death was listed at 5:33 p.m. Police said it got its first report of an armed man with a knife around 5 p.m.
