A deputy in Oconee County, South Carolina, and a suspect were shot Thursday afternoon, according to law enforcement officials. According to Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, the deputy was shot after a traffic stop turned into a police pursuit near Fair Play.Crenshaw says the deputy performed the traffic stop on Thursday, just after 12 p.m., on South Highway 11 at Mount Pleasant Road on a white Chevrolet Silverado, but the suspect sped off from the deputy.According to Crenshaw, the driver of the pickup made his way down Black Bass Road at Shelor Ferry Road, where shots were fired. The deputy was shot and the driver of the pickup drove away, according to Crenshaw. Crenshaw says the deputy was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not said what hospital, but there was a large law enforcement presence at Prisma Health in Greenville Thursday afternoon. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office has also been requested to investigate this incident due to a familial conflict, according to Lt. Ryan Flood with GCSO.Flood says agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division were not involved in this incident. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis says at this time, no one has died as a result of this incident. Crenshaw says the name of the suspect nor the deputy will be released at this time.According to Crenshaw, there is no danger to the public.
