The death of a Massachusetts man who was found suffering from a knife wound outside of the Kowloon restaurant in Saugus appears to be accidental, according to authorities.Patrick Kenney Jr., 42, of Milton, was found in the Kowloon parking lot off Route 1 shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday in what police initially called a stabbing.The Essex County District Attorney’s Office said Kenney was pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston a short time after he was injured.”This incident appears to be accidental, and no additional parties are believed to be involved,” reads a joint announcement from Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and Saugus police Chief Michael Ricciardelli.Kenney’s father told NewsCenter 5 reporter Peter Eliopoulos that his son’s death was a freak accident.Multiple sources told NewsCenter 5 that Kenney was wearing something around his neck that had a knife attached to it when he was wounded.Kenney is survived by his wife, Lauren, and young twin children, according to his father.”Patrick was a loving father, husband, brother, son and loyal friend to many,” reads a statement from Kenney’s family.Members of the Wong family, who own Kowloon, said they have known Kenney and his family for years and that they are loyal customers of the restaurant. Kenney had taken a bus from the South Shore to Saugus with family and friends to have dinner at Kowloon on Saturday, according to the Wong family.Kenney’s death remains under active investigation by state police detectives with the district attorney’s office and Saugus police detectives. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family. Nothing else matters at this time. We ask that people don’t jump to conclusions until an investigation is completed,” reads a statement from the Wong family.An employee of Kowloon told NewsCenter 5 that the restaurant remained open after the incident.The deadly incident happened 10 days after a brawl broke out inside the Kowloon the night before Thanksgiving. Four people have been charged in connection with that fight.
