The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating after officers fired at a woman in Rancho Cordova on Monday.

It all started on Augibi Way when the sheriff’s office said a person called that someone was trying to break into their home with a butcher knife. Officers with the Rancho Cordova Police Department spotted the person suspected of breaking in parked in a driveway along Malaga Way, just around the corner.

Shortly afterward, the sheriff’s office said two officers fired their guns at the woman, but it has not been clarified yet if she was actually hit.

The woman then drove away, prompting a short chase, the sheriff’s office said. The pursuit ended in front of the Sacramento Regional Transit light rail station by Folsom Boulevard and Mather Field Road.

Deputies said the woman eventually surrendered.

A security guard who witnessed the end of the chase told KCRA 3 that several officers surrounded the car with guns drawn. When the woman got out of her car, the guard said he noticed a wound and bleeding on the woman’s arm.

“It was quick,” Melli Fluours Lyuda, a security guard at the light rail station said. “It happened so fast.”

The sheriff’s office also acknowledged the woman’s wound, but deputies are unsure if the wound is from gunfire, shrapnel or her knife.

Deputies said the woman is in the hospital and is expected to survive her injury. She will be booked into the Sacramento County jail on attempted murder charges once she is medically cleared.

The sheriff’s office identified the woman as 24-year-old Kyrieanna Liles.

Investigators believe the woman may live in the neighborhood and that the house she tried breaking into might have been one of her neighbors.

Details were not released as to what led to the shooting. What appeared to be at least three bullet holes could be seen on a Dodge Challenger.

No officers were injured, the sheriff’s office said. Both officers who fired their guns will be on administrative leave, which is protocol anytime an officer is part of a shooting.

Eastbound traffic on Folsom Boulevard near Mather Field Road was shut down because of the investigation, but it has since reopened.
